Links to Resources

The following are a sample of web resources that you might find useful for learning about LEGO League, programming a robot, or doing research for your FLL project.   Please let us know if you find any dead links, or if you have an even more useful resource to add to our list.

High Tech Kids: The website of the Minnesota LEGO League program, this site has tutorials and guides to different building techniques. It also has information on how to tournaments are judged.  Look for the headers "FLL strategy videos" and "challenges".  You can also see tournament videos.

FIRST Robotics:  This is the national program under which First LEGO League (FLL) operates.  Here you can read about the principle guiding the program (gracious professionalism) and much more.  The website covers the high school First Robotics Competition, First Vex Challenge, and FLL.

Programming with the NXT Software:  If you have a consumer version of the NXT Mindstorms set at home this is a great reference site for how to write programs using its included software package.  NOTE:  For the FIRST LEGO League program we DO NOT use this software.  We use RoboLab which is much more powerful once you learn how to use it, but just as easy to learn.

Robolab Inventor Course:   Although slightly outdated (the course was written in the pre NXT era) the basic concepts of how to use RoboLab for programming a robot are as vital as ever.  The FLL program uses version 2.9 of the RoboLab software which has numerous features specifically for the NXT brick and its capabilities.

Using RoboLab with the NXT:   This is a set of three PDF files that provide lots of information about using the software with the new NXTset.  The parent site is LEGO Engineering which is the site you want to go to for updates on the NXT software, RoboLab, and the USB NXT Driver.

LEGO Mindstorms Education Site:   This is the official LEGO site for the over-the-counter version of the NXT set.  Cool stuff, so check it out!

Conserving Memory on Your NXT:   A PDF file that describes how to free up some memory if your running into a storage issue.  We have yet to blow out the capacity of the new NXT, but you never know.
