Executive Director

The BadgerBots vision is simple: we see a world where every kid discovers a love for STEM—and knows that they can pursue a future in it. In the last 10 years we’ve delivered STEM content to more than 20,000 kids.

Our roots are in robotics, but we also host workshops and school break camps on topics including 3D printing, Minecraft, LEGO robots, micro:bit, and 2D game design. Our community engagement program creates meaningful, relevant STEM experiences for kids in underserved populations. 

Our Executive Director will lead us to new levels of impact across all of our major initiatives. They’ll help grow our community engagement program, expand our camp offerings across the Madison area, and deepen our commitment to hosting successful robotics teams.

You will:

  • Work with the Board of Directors to create and implement a 5-year strategic growth plan
  • Be the face of BadgerBots—represent the organization in the community, with key constituents, and at key events
  • Lead efforts to build new sources of funding, including grants and donations
  • Establish goals to enhance the overall diversity of participants in BadgerBots programs
  • Provide leadership on the planning and execution of our key activities: community engagement, camps, and robotics
  • Build and manage an annual budget 
  • Manage and develop the staff to meet the organization’s goals
  • Develop procedures and work instructions as needed to guarantee quality of delivered products

You are:

  • Entrepreneurial; comfortable developing a strategic vision for the future and generating new revenue streams 
  • Skilled at building new relationships and maintaining existing ones with both corporate and individual donors
  • A confident leader who can make tough decisions and communicate them well
  • An effective and poised public speaker who knows how to tailor a message for a variety of audiences, from kids to executives
  • Enthusiastic about how STEM can make a difference for kids & their futures
  • Collaborative, thoughtful, and resourceful; 
  • Willing to pitch in to do whatever the organization needs 

You have:

  • 5+ years of management experience
  • Proven experience & expertise with fiscal management, grant writing, and growth
  • Proven expertise building relationships with key partners in business, government, and other nonprofits
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM-related field or education (preferred)
  • Some knowledge of or experience in FIRST robotics programs (preferred)

Schedule & Location

This position can support hybrid work. You will need to be on-site at our Middleton office for at least part of every week in order to collaborate with our staff. Some evening and weekend hours will be required to support key responsibilities of the job (board meetings, robotics team meetings, weekend robotics tournaments, and more).

Additional Details

The organization is not currently large enough to offer full benefits, but we are looking for you to grow us to a point where we can offer a full package.
