Job Overview
The mission of BadgerBots is to create exciting STEM learning opportunities for kids of all
ages in an open, collaborative environment. One of the programs central to our mission is
serving as the Wisconsin partner for FIRST Lego League (FLL), a program for children from
Pre-K through 8th grade, inspiring youth to experiment and grow their critical thinking,
coding and design skills through hands-on learning and robotics. We are looking for a paid
coordinator to lead the statewide program through organizing tournaments, collaborating
with the volunteers at all levels, and advocating for the growth of the program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate with BadgerBots staff and FIRST headquarters on FLL topics
- Coordinate tournaments throughout the state during the competition season (Estimate: 20-30 tournaments during November through February)
- Source and prepare all materials for tournaments
- Facilitate online team registration, working with BadgerBots leadership to set pricing
- Recruit, organize and support FLL teams and volunteers
- Participate in FLL partner calls, trainings, and conferences
- During the season, lead weekly coach calls, facilitating conversation between FLL expert volunteers and coaches
- During the season, maintain mailing lists and provide weekly e-mail newsletters of key information
- Work with volunteers to grow the statewide program year over year
- Work with BadgerBots marketing to maintain FLL web content
- Adopt and enforce all BadgerBots and FIRST policies
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
Work Experience and Education Required
- Demonstrated experience in organizing events with more than 100 attendees
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with people under a variety of conditions
- Demonstrated experience making and keeping a budget
Skills or Knowledge
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Exceptional collaboration skills, communication skills and experience working with meeting the needs of diverse constituents
- Strong organizing skills including managing and determining priorities of multiple tasks
- Ability to work with minimal to no supervision
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships BadgerBots with staff, FIRST staff and statewide volunteers
Other
- Ability to travel on weekends to provide on-site support for tournaments
- Flexible schedule to work in the evenings with volunteers during the season
- Able to move without physical constraints and lift between 15 to 35 lbs.
- US Citizen or Permanent Resident Alien. Must have the legal right to work in the US without sponsorship
- Position will be effectively a half-time position, flexing to full-time during the competition season (October through February)
- Open to consideration for remote work from within Wisconsin, with periodic on-site work at our Madison, WI headquarters
