
Handheld Arcade II
$115 for 5 weeks – In-Person Instruction
Build your game design skills in Handheld Arcade II. Add levels to your games, create more complex code using functions, and improve your game look with animations. Create a Runner-style game (like the No Internet Dinosaur of Google Chrome), learn to launch projectiles and attack enemies, and how to plan out the steps to make a game of your own.
Age Range: Ages 9-14
Prerequisites: Handheld Arcade I class or Handheld Arcade Summer Camp
Learning Objectives:
- Review concepts from Handheld Arcade I and Camp: Sprites, tilemaps, and how variables are used in games
- Practice using functions to make code clear and concise
- Understand how to use projectile sprites for different game functions
- Learn about the idea of “minimum viable product” and use it to help plan out the steps of game design
- Become more comfortable asking questions and troubleshooting code
- Practice good coding habits; naming programs and using comments, saving and backing up code
