Virtual 3D Printing Class: Week 2 “Space Stuff”

Welcome to week 2 of the BadgerBOTS Virtual 3D Printing Class!

The goals of this class are:

  1. To get people creating in Tinkercad while staying safe
  2. To teach new 3D design skills and strategies
  3. To inspire 3D design ideas
  4. To share projects with others

Every week, BadgerBOTS will create a different Topic with instructions and/or videos for different levels of Tinkercad experience. Students are free to look at and try all Challenge Levels.

Tinkercad and 3D design can be challenging but stick with it! By trying something each week, you will build your skills.

Week 2 Challenge Level 1

  • Place Objects
  • Change the Color
  • Move in all directions
  • Learn to Scale an object
  • Duplicate
  • Nudge

Want to print this project?

The 3D printer can’t print objects in mid-air, so how will you be able to print your project?

What if you added loops to the top of each object to make a mobile?

What if you put all the objects on a flattened cylinder or cube?

Week 2 Challenge Level 2

Flying Saucer – Create a Sci-Fi flying saucer. Add in details like lights, alien pilots, or a beam for lifting objects into your UFO.

  • Resize and Reshape
  • Use the Workplane tool to help place objects
  • Duplicate and rotate to make patterns

Week 2 Bonus Challenge: Space Helmet

Take a look at a Tinkercad Tutorial on the Instructables website.

This tutorial will show the steps for designing a Space Helmet. Once you have finished, add in any customizations you think would make a better helmet for space travel.
